quarter marathon

having run it, yes it bleeping well is!

After a break of about 20 years the Apperley quarter marathon is taking place again with the aim of raising funds for Tewkesbury Hospital which is the Apperley Cricket Club's chosen charity for 2011, and the cricket club itself.

The fun run took place several times in the 1980's with about two hundred runners in each event, including England and Gloucestershire cricketers Bill Athey and Jack Russell. It will incorporate road and cross country running and take in a run down by River Severn and a run (walk or crawl depending on fitness!) past the historic Deerhurst Church. The distance covered will be just over 6 miles.

Last year was a successful re-introduction! Some pages say £7 entry on web-site (Dreamweaver is having a moment!) - it is £8 for pre-registered runners this year.

Apperley Cricket Club (www.apperleycc.co.uk) is situated between Tewkesbury, Gloucester and Cheltenham and will provide stewarding, medical support and changing facilities.

There are a number of categories to race for: top male, top female, top junior, top village male parishioner and top female parishioner (Cathy Heard seems to think she has this last category sewn up!)

Thanks to Cathy Heard a map of the course can be found on the course link.We have data from a GARMIN GPS if you are geeky enough to want it!
